A Rainy Day Plantation Wedding at Old Wide Awake | The Cawleys

When Maya and Sean first got in touch with me about their Plantation wedding in Hollywood, SC, I was so excited – they were planning a romantic outdoor wedding with a first look, outdoor ceremony and even a live stream of their college team's Final Four game. Maya and Sean are two of the most fun people (I quickly learned this at their engagement session!) and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!

Getting ready

I began the morning at Old Wide Awake Plantation, where the couple was getting ready, and it was so much fun, because everyone was in a good mood. Maya wore a Martina Lillian Dress and Sean wore a blush pink bow tie with a slate blue suit and they looked so dapper. Maya also wore her great grandmother’s engagement ring on my right hand. She gifted Sean a set of Auburn Tiger cuff links & Sean gifted her a beautiful bracelet. Their first look took place in a little floral filled garden with a STUNNING white barn covered in ivy. It rained on the way to the first look, during bridal portraits, before the ceremony, and during the reception. It amazingly, didn't rain DURING the first look nor the outdoor ceremony.

The outdoor ceremony

The wedding took place at Old Wide Awake Plantation, and was a gorgeous outdoor ceremony. They had personal vows they wrote themselves, which brought pretty much everyone to tears. All three grandmoms were their flower girls. They were having so much fun! After the ceremony there was a big cheer from everyone, and then the celebrations began!

The party

The wedding reception took place in a tent at Old Wide Awake, which they’d decorated with lanterns, pineapples, candles, and lots of greenery. It was beautiful.
It was a rainy day, which luckily didn’t put a dampener on moods. While the guests enjoyed the cocktails, the couple mingled and laughed with their friends. My favorite photo from their first dance is the one where Sean is spinning Maya and you see how much fun they are having.
During the reception they had a projector screen, which was live streaming Auburn's Final Four game. For dinner they had a buffet selection, and it was loved by all the guests. After the meal they cut their funfetti wedding cake (yup! Maya LOVES funfetti so when it came to choosing their wedding cake, they did just that!), then everyone hit the dance floor and the party got started. They also had a DJ, which kept everyone entertained.

The couple

Maya and Sean met in college at Auburn. They say if you’re planning a wedding, "keep in mind what is important for y’all as a couple. We did actually what we wanted. Also don’t stress too much about a timeline for your day because no matter what it’s going to be off".
